Indonesian Minister of Industry Muhammad Sarmuji has praised the progress of Java Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate (JIIPE) in Gresik, East Java. During a visit to the estate, he said the integrated industrial estate is helping drive the regional economy.
Sarmuji said communities should be informed about the benefits industrial estates bring, so they understand the impact on the local economy. Gresik, he noted, has gained considerably from JIIPE. “Certain areas grow, and their economies will surely get a boost from the presence of an industrial estate,” he said in a written statement on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
During the visit, Sarmuji was briefed on the estate’s development, infrastructure and utilities, and toured several downstream processing facilities in the metals, renewable energy manufacturing and chemicals sectors.
Earlier, on October 12 at Gedung Negara Grahadi in Surabaya, Sarmuji said industrial estates help speed up industrialization in East Java, an effort that needs support from local governments, especially in providing land and infrastructure. He also commended the East Java provincial government for sustaining regional economic growth.
Sarmuji added that industries in JIIPE also involve the local community, with around 70% of their workforce coming from Gresik and East Java.
Bambang Soetiono, President Director of PT Berkah Kawasan Manyar Sejahtera (BKMS), the developer of JIIPE, said the estate combines an industrial area, a deep-sea port and supporting facilities. It covers 1,761 hectares of industrial land, 406 hectares of port area and 800 hectares of residential area. “Around 60% of the land has been sold,” he said.
Bambang pointed to complete infrastructure and utilities, along with deep-sea access, as JIIPE’s main advantages in supporting industrial operations and logistics. “We are also building a gas-fired power plant supplied by PGN, and we plan to build a solar power plant,” he said.
The planned solar plant is part of the estate’s energy supply. Ready infrastructure, utilities and logistics connections are needed to support both day-to-day operations and expansion by industries in the area.
JIIPE’s metals downstream ecosystem covers copper processing, precious metals refining, copper-based product manufacturing and the development of a precious metals project. A photovoltaic glass plant supports the solar industry supply chain, while investment in chemicals has widened process industry activity in the estate.
